President's Message

Welcome to the Bangladesh Center For Holocaust Studies. I am very excited to lead this dynamic organization that provides an opportunity for the people of Bangladesh to learn about the holocaust. The South Asian nation is predominantly Muslim and known for its democratically elected government and its progressive outlook.
As a kid growing up in Bangladesh, we were not taught the history of the Holocaust in our school system. Due to a lack of knowledge there is a presence of gross ignorance about the Jewish people and their culture. This unfortunate situation is a direct result of lack of exposure to Judaism. The world we have today is a product of what happened in the past. Learning about the past gives us insight into the present as we shape our future. The 21st century brings with it many challenges for the human civilization. The conflicts fueled by hate and intolerance continue to illustrate the need of understanding among civilizations.
Differences among civilizations should not be a source of mistrust but should be a source of strength. Education enables a society to transform its attitude. Understanding helps bring hope where there is apathy; love where there is hate; right where there is wrong; light where there is darkness; joy where there is sorrow and peace where there is strife.
The Bangladesh Center for Holocaust Studies is the primary institution that serves as the nation’s memorial to the millions of people who perished during the Holocaust. The center offers educational programs that help enlighten people about this tragic event. Our programs will be translated in Bengali text for easier understanding. We are also moving forward with plans for building a facility in the capital city of Dhaka that will contain a museum and research facilities. The center is in contact with various Holocaust museums, Jewish organizations, Holocaust survivors and their families to acquire artifacts and resources.
I want to show my gratitude towards Minneapolis Jewish Federation and AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) for their inspiration. I am very excited to be the part of this great endeavor that will benefit all civilizations.
Our goal is to lift one’s eyes to the horizon. With undaunted determination, we will make a difference in the world. It is humbling to lead an institution of such strength and potential. I hope you will join us on this pioneering and historical journey ahead of us.
